BEARS COMPETE AT PIONEER CLASSIC
Cal travels to the 18-team Pioneer Electronics Bruin Classic, March 12-13. The 54-hole tournament takes place at Menifee Lakes Country Club in Temecula, Calif., for the eighth-straight year. It plays at a par of 72 over 6,019 yards. Thirty-six holes are slated for Monday, with the final round set for Tuesday.
LAST YEAR'S PIONEER CLASSIC
Pepperdine won last year's tournament with a 17-over-par 881, and the Waves Lindsey Wright claimed top individual honors with a one-over-par 217. The Bears finished fifth with a score of 906. Cal's Anne Walker finished four shots off the pace (221), tying for sixth.
Third-ranked USC enters the 18-team tournament as the top-ranked team, followed by No. 10 Pepperdine, No. 19 UCLA, No. 21 Oklahoma and No. 22 New Mexico. California (No. 33), Texas A&M (No. 41), Nevada (No. 46) and Oregon (No. 50) complete the group of ranked teams. The other participating teams are BYU, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, Northern Arizona, Oregon State, Portland State, San Francisco, San Diego State and Washington State.

BAY AREA CLASSIC IN REVIEW
Cal placed second at the fifth-annual Bay Area Classic with a 36-hole score of 618, 16 strokes behind Washington (502). Seven of the Bears eight golfers placed among the top 20 individuals. Sophomore Vikki Laing was Cal's highest finisher, tying for third with a 152.
2000 FALL SEASON IN REVIEW
Cal began the fall season on a high note, winning the 18-team Oregon State Invitational, its third major tournament championship in school history. The OSU win also saw the Bears match their team record for 36 holes of 597 and Anne Walker fire a Cal record 143 for 36 holes. Sophomore Vikki Laing recorded a team-low 76.4 stroke average during the fall.
