Dodd Fires Season-Best 73 To Open Pioneer/Bruin Classic
March 12, 2001
Washington State Women's Golf
Menifee, Calif. --- Washington State senior Jennifer Dodd (Portland, Ore.) fired a 73 in the first round of the Pioneer Electronic Bruin Classic, and is tied for 11th at the par 72 Menifee Lakes Country Club.
Dodd's 73 was a season-best and put her in range of the tournament leader, Angie Yoon of Nevada, who smoked the course for a 68 on Monday.
Unfortunately for the Cougars, not everybody enjoyed Dodd's type of success against the powerful, 18-team field. WSU finished the day in 17th place with a team score of 320.
Team scoring average leader, Tasha Browner (Tarzana, Calif.), shot an 80 and is tied for 78th place. Three other Cougars, sophomore Donna Bell, and freshmen Emily De'Ath and Natalie Bratkowski, shot between 83 and 85, and are buried deep in the pack.
Tournament host UCLA jumped to an early advantage on the team leader board, holding a one-stroke advantage over Pepperdine and Oklahoma, who are tied for second.
Yoon has a two-stroke lead over Southern Cal's Candie Kung and Pepperdine's Katherine Hull, who both fired two-under par 70s in the first round.
The second round was postponed until Tuesday because of darkness. Play will begin at 9 a.m. in a shotgun format.
