Stanford Freshman Nicole Powell Named Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Stanford guard Nicole Powell has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Mar. 5-11, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Powell, from Phoenix, Ariz., led the Cardinal (18-10, 12-6) to a sweep at the Arizona schools last weekend, giving Stanford a share of its 10th Pac-10 title and the Conference's NCAA automatic bid. For the week, Powell averaged 22.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and six assists. She shot 7-of-12 (.583) from beyond the arc.
Against the Wildcats, Powell posted career highs of 29 points and six 3-pointers. She also added 12 rebounds and five assists. Against the Pac-10 Co-Champion Sun Devils, she contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds in front of her hometown crowd. Powell notched 13 of the Cardinal's 28 second-half points.
The Player of the Week honor is the first of Powell's career and Stanford's 41st selection all-time. ALSO NOMINATED: Angelina Wolvert, ORE, Kristee Porter, UCLA, Tashara Carter, USC.
