WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA catcher Stacey Nuveman has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week while CALIFORNIA pitcher Jocelyn Forest was named Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 5 - Mar. 11, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Nuveman, a junior from La Verne, Calif., hit four home runs last week for the top-ranked Bruins, two against UC Riverside and one against Cal Poly and No. 7 Fresno State at the Hedrick's Hallowell Chevrolet Classic in Fresno, Calif. She hit safely in all eight games during the week, posting a batting average of .478 with six runs scored and 9 RBI. Nuveman also had a slugging percentage mark of 1.087.
Forest, a junior from Santa Maria, Calif., pitched 39 scoreless innings while going 5-0 with two saves (the first two of her career) for the No. 4 Bears throughout the week. In that span, she gave up just eight walks and 17 hits while striking out 57 batters. She defeated New Mexico State, UC Santa Barbara, No. 9 Arizona State and No. 12 Iowa twice, which earned her all-tournament honors at the National Invitational Softball Tournament in Sunnyvale, Calif. Currently, she is 15-0 with a 0.19 ERA and 167 strikeouts in 108 innings. Her scoreless innings streak has now reached 86 innings, which is the sixth longest in NCAA history.
