March 14, 2001
Berkeley, CA - Cal Acting Athletic Director Bob Driscoll announced today that the school has reached a new four-year contract extension with KGO Radio (810 AM), the 50,000-watt station based in San Francisco.
Cal will be entering its 28th consecutive season on KGO this fall, the longest radio association in the Pacific-10 Conference and one of the longest relationships in all of college football. The new contract will extend through the conclusion of the 2004 season.
'We're pleased to continue our long association with KGO Radio,' said Driscoll. 'It's more than having the No. 1 station in Northern California and its 50,000 watts of power as your partner. It's a tradition. Many of our fans have grown up listening to Cal Football on KGO and we think it's a special relationship, one that we're proud will continue.'
All of the Cal football games will feature a 30-minute pre-game show as well as a post-game report complete with interviews from the Cal locker room. Joe Starkey will be returning for his 27th season as the play-by-play host of the games, while Lee Grosscup will be returning for his 12th season as the Cal color commentator.
KGO General Manager Michael Luckoff indicated he was pleased with the new Cal agreement.'We're delighted to continue our relationship with the University of California,' he said. 'KGO Radio has retained numerous long term relationships with some of the best franchises in the bay area.'
