NCAA Championships Underway

Long Island, NY- Day one of the 2001 Women's Swimming and Diving Championships got underway at the Nassau County Aquatic Center with the Bruins finishing 13th overall. Auburn leads the field, followed by Georgia, Texas, Stanford and Arizona to round out the top five.
The Bruins highest finish came in the 400 Medley Relay as UCLA clocked 3:40.25 to place ninth. In the day's first event, the Bruins finshed 10th in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:31.80, just .17 seconds shy of the school record that was established in 1993.
In several of the individual events, Brooke Winkler placed 22nd in the 200 IM (2:02.79), Sara Platzer was also 22nd in the 50 Free (23.11), Erica Shugart placed 31st in the 50 Free (23.31) and Beth Goodwin, who also competed in the 50 Free was 37th (23.44)
In diving, Anne Baghramian finished 35th in the one-meter springboard with 224 points.
Competititon resumes tommrow with the prelims beginning at 11:00 and the finals at 7:00 pm EST.
