No. 1 UCLA Men's Tennis Upends Pepperdine, 6-1

Los Angeles, CA -- The top-ranked UCLA Bruins tennis team remained undefeated on the season after defeating No. 10 Pepperdine, 6-1 this afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins improved to 14-0 overall (5-0 Pac-10), while Pepperdine falls to 10-4 overall
Pepperdine started the match in quick fashion as the Waves took the match at No. 1 as the tandem of Al Garland and Stefan Suter, ranked No. 21 in the latest ITA poll, upset Jean-Noel Grinda and Jean-Julien Rojer, the country's No. 9 ranked team, 8-5. The Bruins rebounded at No. 2 as Marcin Matkowski and Travis Rettenmaier downed Pepperdine's Chase Exon and Al Garland, who are ranked No. 38, 8-4.
The Bruins continued their momentum in singles as Rojer defeated Garland in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1. UCLA won the match at No. 4 and at No. 6 as both Djahangiri and Rettenmaier completed their matches simultaneously. Djahangiri defeated Pepperdine's Hansen, 7-6(4), 7-5, while Rettenmaier also won in straight sets, defeating Gerold Wiring, 6-2, 6-4.
Pepperdine's lone point of the match came at No. 2 as Suter downed Grinda in straight sets by identical scores of 7-5.
The Bruins will have the week off for final exams and return to action on Wednesday, (Mar. 28) in a match against Cal Poly SLO at the LA Tennis Center at 1:30 pm.
