Women's Swimming, Diving NCAA Prelim Results, Day One

LONG ISLAND, NY - Sophomore Michala Kwasny and junior Kristin MacGregor both qualified for the finals of the 200-yard IM and the USC's 400 medley relay team also reached the finals on the first day of the 2001 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the Nassau Aquatics Center on Thursday (March 15).

Kwasny swam a personal best 1:58.59 in the prelims to qualify third while MacGregor went a season's best 2:00.12 to qualify eighth.

Troy's 400 medley relay of junior Katie Meyer, MacGregor, freshman Jana Krohn and Kwasny qualified fourth in 3:37.99, also a USC best this season.

Freshman Melissa Deary earned a berth in the consolation finals of the 500 free in 4:46.59, as did sophomore Jennifer Parmenter in the 200 IM (2:01.70).

Sophomore Asa Sandlund and senior Corrie Murphy both just missed reaching the consolation finals of the 500 free, finishing 17th (4:47.80) and 18th (4:48.28), respectively.

USC's 200 free relay of Parmenter, Krohn, Kwasny and MacGregor reached the B finals, taking 15th (1:32.46, season's best).

Diving results will be posted tonight.

Finals begin at 7 p.m. (EST) tonight.
