No. 23 Women's Gym Upends San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Dani Albright won the all-around title and the uneven bars and tied with teammate Kim Cianci for first place in floor exercise, but the Spartans fell behind after the second rotation and couldn't recover in a 194.125 to 193.550 loss to No. 23 California Friday night at Spartan Gym.
San Jose State held a 48.375-48.050 advantage after the first event, but on the second rotation, Cal scored 48.975 points on vault while SJSU ended with 47.825points on the uneven bars. That put the Bears in front, 97.025 to 96.200, and Cal maintained its advantage on the final two rotations to win the meet.
The lead didn't come easy for the Bears, who needed a 1-2-3 finish on the second event (vault), to come out of the rotation with the lead. Lisa Arnold, Lindsay Baker and Janet McKnight tied for first place with a score of 9.850.
SJSU kept it close with its flawless performance on the floor, but Cal didn't falter when the Spartans turned up the pressure. Senior co-captain Pari Olver and Baker kept the Bears ahead when the duo scored a 9.925 and 9.850 on the beam, respectively, to finish one-two in the event.
For Olver, the beam score Friday night capped a career-best performances, she shattered her previous high of 9.825. The native of Minneapolis, MN also tallied a 39.125 to finish third in the all-around competition.
Next up for the Bears will be the Pac-10 Championships hosted by the University of Washington, Saturday, Mar. 24 at 6 p.m. in Seattle.
