Men's Swimming At NCAAs - Day One Prelims

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Freshman Klete Keller and sophomore Erik Vendt both qualified for finals in the 500-yard free and, junior Tamas Kerekjarto made finals in the 200 IM and the 400 medley relay squad also reached finals during prelims on the first day of the 2001 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at Texas A&M on Thursday (March 22).

Keller swam a 4:17.97 to qualify third while Vendt swam a 4:18.85 to qualify sixth in the 500 free and Kerekjarto swam a 1:45.56 in the 200 IM to qualify third.

The 400 medley relay squad of sophomore Jeff Lee, senior Ryosuke Imai, junior Nick Kaschik and senior Gabe Woodward earned a trip into the finals by swimming to eighth in the morning in 3:13.57.

Woodward, in the prelims of the 200 free relay, swam a lifetime best 20.30 in the leadoff 50. The squad of Woodward, Lee, junior Rodrigo Castro and Slawek Richter qualified for consolation finals in 11th.

Junior Mark Warkentin qualified for the consolation finals of the 500 free in 16th (4:21.37). That was barely more than two seconds off from making the top eight.
