Softball Player/Pitcher of the Week (3/22/01)

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA outfielder Pauline Duenas has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week while WASHINGTON pitcher Tia Bollinger was named Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 12 - Mar. 18, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Duenas, a senior from Chula Vista, Calif., batted .375 (6-for-16) with two doubles, six runs scored and six RBI, leading California to a 4-1 record during the week at the Capital Classic in Sacramento, Calif. In the Classic, the Golden Bears knocked off Miami-Ohio, Eastern Illinois, Western Kentucky and Purdue. Duenas' performance improved her batting average .031 points over the weekend, and she is now hitting .223 with three doubles, 13 RBI, 16 runs scored and 21 hits.
Bollinger, a freshman from Santa Ana, Calif., earned all three Husky victories throughout the week, going 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 21.0 innings of work. In that span, she walked two, gave up just seven hits (no extra-base hits) and stuck out 17 batters en route to three complete-game shutouts. Bollinger has not allowed a run (earned or unearned) in her last 26 innings and has now thrown five consecutive complete-game shutouts to go along with eight straight victories. Currently, Bollinger is 18-2 with a 0.86 ERA, seven shutouts and 13 complete games.
It is the first weekly honor for Duenas, California's 46th overall. Bollinger also garners the first award of her career giving Washington 43 honors all-time.
