Two Beavers Receive Verizon Academic All-District Honors

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Oregon State senior gymnast Lara Degenhardt and junior swimmer Bonnie Renwick were among the athletes named to the Verizon Academic All-District VIII second team, it was announced Thursday.
It is the first such honor for both athletes.
Degenhardt carries a 3.49 grade point average as a graphic design major. She earned second team All-American honors on floor exercise last season, and she was the 1999 Pac-10 champion on that same event. Degenhardt currently ranks 20th in the nation on floor. She is a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic Team selection, and she is an NACGC/W Scholastic All-American as well.
Renwick boasts a 3.82 grade point average in psychology and business. She holds the OSU record in the 100-yard butterfly and has one of OSU's top 10 times in four other events as well. She is also a Pacific-10 honorable All-Academic Team member.
In order to be considered for the Verizon Academic All-District Team, athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or significant reserve and be in at least their second year at their current school. District VIII includes schools in Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Utah and British Columbia.
Ten athletes were named to the first team, and 10 athletes were named second team recipients.
