Harris Leads Men's Track at Baldy Castillo Closer

TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior Micah Harris led the University of Oregon men's track and field team at final day action at the Baldy Castillo Invitational.

The Tempe, Ariz., native clocked 13.96 to take second in the 110 hurdles - only .06 seconds short of the NCAA provisional mark of 13.90 - and added 10th place in the 200 (22.09).

Fellow hurdle newcomer, freshman Jake Garlick claimed 10th in the 400 hurdles (52.8h), ahead of junior Tim Overfield (53.3) and freshman Brandon Holliday (13th, 53.7). Garlick also competed in the 110 hurdles (ninth, 14.51), just ahead of junior Billy Pappas (12th, 14.74) and sophomore Terry Ellis (13th, 14.74).

Also in the sprints, the 4x400 relay turned in its best time of 2001's indoor and outdoor seasons with their eighth-place clocking of 3:14.17.

In the middle distances, junior Ross Krempley ranked 22nd overall (1:54.57).

Junior Jason Boness paced Duck field event action, taking third in the high jump (7-0 1/2), with sophomore teammate Jake Horner adding 13th (6-8 3/4). The three-time All-American Boness was 1 1/4 inches short of the NCAA provisional minimum of 7-1 3/4.

In the pole vault, junior Cody Howell claimed the win at 16-4 3/4 on fewer misses over Indiana's Kris Mack (second), and UO freshman Trevor Woods (third).

Looking ahead, several of the men's distance runners and much of the women's team will compete at the Stanford Invitational, Saturday-Sunday, March 31-April 1.
