Softball Picks Up Two More Wins In New Mexico State Tourney

LAS CRUCES, NM - Oregon State's softball team recorded two more victories in Saturday's action at the New Mexico State Tournament. The No. 15 ranked Beavers dominated Tulsa, 6-1 and then knocked off New Mexico State for the second time in two days with a 3-2 win.

OSU improves its overall record to 25-10-1 on the season and has won six consecutive games.

Oregon State recorded 10 hits against Tulsa with eight different batters getting a piece of the action.

After a leadoff walk by senior Shawna Feldt in the opening inning, Shelly Prochaska doubled to the left side and both runners were knocked in when sophomore Steph Adams belted a double to rightfield. The Beavers earned an early 2-0 lead and were never threatened by the Golden Hurricanes.

Freshman pitcher Monica Hoffman picked up the win to improve to 9-5 on the season after allowing just one hit in three inning of action. Fellow freshman Kaitlin Wilson allowed just three hits in four innings of relief.

Junior Traci Feldt continued her hot hitting with a 2-for-4 effort and two RBI while sophomore Cara Maxey went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Against New Mexico State, the Beavers picked up six hits and fended off a late Aggie comeback bid when Melissa Briggs grounded out to Shawna Feldt to preserve the 3-2 victory and strand the tying run on third base.

Shawna Feldt went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored to lead the Beavers. Prochaska also doubled for OSU and Traci Feldt's sacrifice fly in the sixth inning knocked in a run.Pitcher Crystal Draper picked up the victory to improve her season record to 14-5.

'Overall it was a good day,' commented OSU head coach Kirk Walker. 'Our pitching staff did a good job of combining to get the two wins and we had some well executed offensive innings.'

Oregon State concludes tournament action Sunday with a pair of games. The Beavers meet Tulsa again, at 8 a.m. and finish action with a Noon contest against Texas-San Antonio.

'We look forward to getting more offense going tomorrow to take some of the pressure off of our defense,' said Walker.
