Softball Sweeps Double-Header With Sacramento State

March 27, 2001

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Shawna Feldt's three RBI helped lead Oregon State's softball team to a double-header sweep of Sacramento State on Tuesday afternoon and earn head coach Kirk Walker his 200th career victory.

The No. 15 ranked Beavers tallied 5-0 and 2-1 wins against the Hornets to improve their overall record to 29-10-1. Walker, in his seventh season at OSU, has a career record of 200-196-3.

In game one, OSU opened the scoring in the fifth inning. Sophomore Steph Adams doubled to rightfield to start the inning and Brooke Rutschman's one-out single advanced Adams to third base. Shawna Feldt followed with a double to centerfield which knocked in both Adams and Rutshman and proved to be the only scoring that the Beavers would need.

Oregon State added three more runs in the sixth, including a sacrifice fly by Adams and an RBI-single by Rutschman.

Pitcher Crystal Draper allowed just four hits while recording her sixth shutout of the season and improving her overall record to 16-5.

Shawna Feldt, a senior, went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI while sister Traci Feldt finished the game with a 2-for-4 effort. Rutschman was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate and Adams finished a perfect 2-for-2.

Freshman Monica Hoffman (11-5) picked up the win in game two, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out five.

Despite being held to just two hits in the game, Oregon State got on the board first after the Hornets committed two errors in the fourth inning, allowing Shawna Feldt to score. Sacramento State answered with a run in the bottom of the inning after Jillian Bivert's RBI-double scored Amber Dragomir.

The Beavers took the lead for good in the sixth inning as Shawna Feldt tripled in Michelle Notaro, (who had reached on a Hornet error) with what proved to be the winning run.

'These are two good wins,' said Walker. 'We had a good offensive output in the first game and were able to take advantage of some Sacramento State mistakes in the second game.'

OSU, winners of 10 straight, travels to Stockton, CA for a 1 p.m. game against Pacific on Wednesday. The Beavers open Pac-10 Conference action this Friday when they host Arizona State at Wallace Marine Park in Salem. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
