No. 14 Ranked Softball Falls To No. 18 Pacific, 4-1

March 28, 2001

STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 14 ranked Oregon State softball team had its 10-game winning streak broken on Wednesday afternoon with a 4-1 loss to No. 18 Pacific.

The Beavers fall to 29-11-1 on the season while the Tigers, winners of 16 straight, improve to 29-5 on the year.

OSU struggled both offensively and defensively on the day, managing just four hits and committing five errors in the contest.

'It was a tough environment to play in,' commented OSU head coach Kirk Walker. 'We came out flat and when we finally focused later in the game, it was too late against a quality team.'

Pacific jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning behind four hits and a sacrifice bunt.

Oregon State broke up the shutout in the fifth when Shawna Feldt's sacrifice fly knocked in fellow senior Brooke Rutschman to give the Beavers their lone run of the game.

Shawna Feldt finished the day 1-for-3 while Rutschman went 1-for-2.

Junior Crystal Draper picked up the loss, allowing four runs and six hits in four innings of action before being replaced by freshman Monica Hoffman.

'It's imperative that we regroup quickly,' said Walker.

Oregon State finished its six-day, nine-game road trip with an 8-1 record.

The Beavers open Pac-10 Conference action this Friday when they host No. 9 Arizona State at Wallace Marine Sports Park in Salem. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
