Blair, Adkins Second at UC Davis Multi-Event Meet

DAVIS, Calif. - California juniors Matt Blair and Shawna Adkins are both in second place Thursday after the first day of the UC Davis Multi-Event competition at Woody Wilson Track.

Through five events of the decathlon, Blair posted 3759 points, putting him 126 points behind J.J. Noble of Chico State (3885). Travis Olson of the Linfield Track Club is third of 12 athletes with 3711. Blair finished second in both the long jump and shot put and took third in the 400m for a balanced first-day effort. His most points came from the 100m (819), where he clocked a 11.19. The Napa product is on pace to top his decathlon PR of 7008 points, which he posted with his sixth-place finish at last year's Pac-10 Championship.

Adkins, who is competing in her first ever heptathlon, has 2859 points after four events. Competing unattached, Brooke Wilson leads the 10-athlete field with 3059 points, while Cal State Stanislaus' Amanda Oliver is third with 2782. Adkins won the shot put (636 points) with a throw of 38-1.5 but earned her most points (763) for her third-place finish in the 100mH (15.61)

The decathlon resumes at 11 a.m. tomorrow with the 110m high hurdles, followed by the discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m. The heptathlon continues at noon, beginning with the long jump,which will be followed by the javelin and 800m.
