Blair Wins Decathlon at UC Davis Multi-Event Meet

DAVIS, Calif. - California junior Matt Blair won the decathlon with a personal-best 7208 points Friday at the UC Davis Multi-Event meet at Woody Wilson Track. Golden Bear junior Shawna Adkins finished second in her first ever heptathlon and qualified for the Pac-10 meet with 5000 points.
Blair finished ahead of two Chico State athletes and provisionally qualified for NCAAs. J.J. Noble, who led after the first day, was second with 6,975 points, while teammate Erick Knight was third with 6,970 points. Brook Wilson, who was competing unattached, won the heptathlon with 5100 points, and Amanda Oliver of Cal State Stanislaus was third with 4637 points.
Blair took top honors in the 110mH (15.36, 807 points) and the 1500m (4:45.43, 646 points) to rally from his second-place standing of 3,759 points after the first day. He also finished third in the discus (126-0), second in the pole vault (14-7.25) and second in the javelin (170-3), scoring 633, 746 and 617 points, respectively.
Adkins, who was in second after four events with 2859 points, won the 800m Friday in 2:21.14.
