Men's Tennis Hosts Oregon And No. 12 Washington

ON TAP: The Arizona State men's tennis team (8-8, 2-1 Pacific-10) will close out their 2001 home schedule as they host Oregon (8-9, 0-2 Pac-10) on Friday, April 6 at 1:30 p.m. and 12th-ranked Washington (16-4, 1-1 Pac-10) on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. ASU holds a 6-1 all-time record against Oregon and an undefeated 12-0 record against Washington.
A LOOK BACK: The Sun Devils dropped their last two duals to visiting California, 4-3 and to sixth-ranked Stanford, 6-1. Cal took the early advantage by winning two of the three doubles for the first point. ASU claimed its only doubles win on the No. 1 court where Matt Klinger and Pim Van Mele won 8-5. In singles action, the two teams split the six matches. ASU claimed their first point on the No. 6 court where Jarrod Eckermann won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. The Bears then claimed wins on the first, second and fourth courts, while the Sun Devil's Mirza Duranovic and Olivier Charroin won on the third and fifth courts. Stanford took an early advantage by sweeping ASU in the three doubles matches for the first point. In singles action, Stanford took all but one point from the Devils. The first match finished on the No. 2 court where K.J. Hippensteel defeated Klinger 6-2, 7-6 (3). ASU claimed its only point on the No. 3 court where Duranovic won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. Stanford then earned wins on the first and fifth courts with straight set victories. After a long battle Stanford took win number five on the sixth court when Ansari defeated Eckermann, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Finishing up the match, Stanford's Ryan Haviland defeated sophomore Van Mele on the No. 4 court, 6-4, 7-6 (3).
SUN DEVILS IN THE RANKINGS: Senior Nic Dubey is ranked 57th in the country, while junior Matt Klinger is 95th. The next team ranking will be released on April 11, while the singles and doubles will be released on April 6.
HEAD COACH LOU BELKEN: In his 19th season as head coach, Lou Belken has produced 14 All-Americans, including NCAA singles champion and ATP professional Sargis Sargsian. Belken, the 1999 Pacific-10 Conference Coach of the Year and Region VIII Coach of the Year, has guided the Sun Devils to NCAA postseason berths in nine of the last 13 seasons, including a berth into the NCAA round of 16 in 1999.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Senior Nic Dubey and junior Mirza Duranovic each achieved their 80th career singles victory against LMU ... junior Matt Klinger holds a .700 career winning percentage in singles, recording a 58-25 mark ... this is Duranovic's third straight year of reaching at least 20 wins ... five of ASU's eight losses have been by just one point ... the dual against 12th-ranked Washington will be Arizona State's ninth dual against a top-25 team this year and the eighth dual against a top-15 program.
HOME SWEET HOME: Over the past four seasons, including an 8-4 record this year, Arizona State holds a 59-24 (.711) overall dual record at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
