Men's Tennis Shuts Out Utah, 7-0

STANFORD, Calif. - Sixth-ranked Stanford University (13-1) increased its winning streak to a season-high seven with a 7-0 non-conference victory over the University of Utah (8-11) on Wednesday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The victory was also the Cardinal's 63rd straight at home dating back to April 6, 1996.
The Cardinal next travels to Southern California for a pair of crucial Pacific-10 Conference matches this weekend. Stanford (2-0 Pac-10), which has won four straight Pac-10 titles, visits top-ranked UCLA (16-0, 3-0) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and 21st-ranked USC (11-4, 1-2) on Saturday at noon. The Cardinal returns to Taube Family Tennis Stadium on Tuesday, April 10 when it hosts 27th-ranked California (9-5, 1-1) at 5:00 p.m. in 'Twilight Tuesday' presented by Cashin Company Realtors.
The Cardinal swept all nine matches, though the Utes took three of the six singles matches to three sets. Stanford junior K.J. Hippensteel (Roanoke, VA/International Academy) increased his singles winning streak to 11 with a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 win over Kevin Zenger at No. 2, while teammates Alex Kim (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill HS), David Martin (Key Biscayne, FL/Boca Raton Prep) and Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY/Bellmore-Kennedy HS) all prevailed in straight sets.
In doubles, Stanford's No. 1 duo of Hippensteel and Kim have now won five of their last six after an 8-5 victory over David Mercier and Nikolas Yip. Stanford's No. 2 duo of Lipsky and Martin, who are ranked fifth in the country, improved to 25-2 with an 8-3 triumph over Daniel Carlsson and Zenger.
