Women's Tennis Begins Five-Match Home Stand

THIS WEEK: The WSU women's tennis team will host the Arizona State and the University of Arizona, Friday at 11:00 a.m. and Saturday at noon, respectively on the Stadium Way Tennis Courts. The matches mark the beginning of a five-match home stretch for the Cougars.

SCOUTING THE ARIZONA STATE SUN DEVILS: The Sun Devils are currently 13-3 overall, 5-3 in the Pac-10 and No. 14 in the latest ITA polls. The ITA currently lists five ASU players in the nation's top rankings. In singles action, No. 7 Adria Engel is accompanied by No. 63 teammate Megan Yeats and No. 82 Mhairi Brown. As a doubles team, the Adria Engel/Karin Palme tandem posts a No. 23, and the Mhairi Brown/Celena McCoury combo ranks No. 43.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS OF ARIZONA: The Wildcats are currently 6-8 overall, 1-5 Pac-10 and No. 49 in the latest ITA polls. The Wildcats currently have three players in the ITA rankings. In singles action, Michelle Gough is currently holding the No. 79 position. Debbie Larocque and Laresa Marino, who are currently in the No. 39 position in doubles action, accompany Gough in the rankings.

HEAD COACH CARI GROCE ON THIS WEEKEND: 'It will be nice for the team to showcase their talents to our home crowd. We are looking forward to a great five-match home stand. We have worked very hard, and its time for the fans to see this great team they have been reading so much about.'

LAST WEEK: The Cougars defeated the Ducks of the University of Oregon 5-2 in a dual hosted by the Ducks at the Student Tennis Center. The meeting was the second of the season for the two schools, and the Cougars were victorious in both meetings.

NEXT WEEK: The Cougars will continue their home stretch as they host USC and ULCA, April 13 and 14, respectively. The matches will take place at noon on the Stadium Way Tennis Courts.

COUGARS IN THE RANKINGS: The WSU Cougars moved up to No. 30 in the ITA rankings this week. Junior Erica Perkins is currently ranked No. 34 in singles, while senior Ana Moura and partner Stacy McKenna are holding on to the No. 48 doubles spot and Perkins and Filipovic are No. 49.
