Women's Golfers Tied for Third at ASU Tournament

The UCLA women's golf team is tied for third place after the opening round of the PING/ASU Tournament at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, AZ.

The Bruins posted an 18-hole team score of 302 and trail first round leader Texas Christian by three shots. California is second at 301 followed by UCLA, Tulsa and Arizona State. Oregon State is sixth at 303.

Redshirt freshman Saki Uechi posted a one-over par round of 73 Friday and is just two shots behind the leaders, Arizona's Lorena Ochoa, the nation's top ranked player, and Arizona State's Molly Cooper. Both players posted one-under par scores of 71. TCU's Jennifer Patterson posted an even par score of 72 and is third. Uechi is tied with five other golfers.

Other UCLA scores include senior Laura Moffat and junior Alicia Um, each tied for 23rd with first round scores of 76. Freshman Gina Umeck is tied for 35th after posting a score of 77 and freshman Melissa Martin is tied for 42nd after a first round of 78.

The tournament continues Saturday and Sunday.
