Ducks Add Oregon Prep Standout to List of Football Signees
April 7, 2001
EUGENE - Cory Larsen, who accumulated second-team all-state honors as a defensive back last fall at Gresham High School, has signed a national letter-of-intent to play football at the University of Oregon, according to head coach Mike Bellotti.
The 6-4, 195-pound Mt. Hood League defensive player of the year was credited with three interceptions his senior season in addition to grabbing 29 receptions for 544 yards and seven touchdowns as a free safety and tight end for the Gophers, who finished the 2000 season with a 6-4 record. The two-time all-league choice also earned honorable mention all-state acclaim on offense.
Described as an athletic standout who created mismatches with his physical presence, Larsen broke into the high school ranks as a quarterback his freshman and sophomore seasons. Last year's team captain also was utilized at fullback as well as a kickoff and punt returner, where the three-year letterman returned five kicks for touchdowns over the course of his high school career.
The addition of Larsen brings the final number of Oregon recruits to 24 signed during the seven-week period which ended April 1.
