UCLA Will Compete In Afternoon Session At NCAA Championships

April 8, 2001

UCLA's quest to defend its national championship will begin Thursday, Apr. 19 at 1:00 pm local time in the preliminary round of the NCAA Gymnastics Championships in Athens, GA. The Bruins will compete against Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma and Oregon State with three berths in the Super Six Team Finals at stake.

In a blind draw conducted by the NCAA, UCLA was chosen to begin the meet on a bye before floor. The Bruins received a somewhat similar draw at the NCAA West Regionals Apr. 7, starting the meet on the floor exercise and eventually winning the regional championship with a final team score of 197.775.

Competing in the evening session at 7:00 pm will be Arizona State, Denver, Georgia, Nebraska, Stanford and Utah. The top three teams from each session will advance to the Super Six Team Finals, which will be held Friday, Apr. 20 at 7:00 pm. UCLA and Georgia are the only two teams who have qualified to each Super Six.
