This Week (Saturday, April 14)
On Saturday, April 14, Jeanette's Bolden's UCLA women and Art Venegas' Bruin mentrack and field teams will host their final home meet of the season at DrakeStadium, against Nebraska and CS Northridge. In last week's Trackwire NationalTop 25 (this week's poll comes out April 10), the Bruin women were No. 2(behind No. 1 USC) and the UCLA men were tied for No. 20 (with George Mason).The Nebraska men were not rated and the Cornhusker women were 15th.

On Saturday at Drake, the hammer throws will begin at 9:30 a.m. andthe running events at noon. The 4 X 400m relays will conclude the meet atapproximately 3:30 p.m. Scoring will be dual (5-3-2-1 for all but relay events,5-3, limit of two individuals and one relay team per school to score in eachevent) and triangular (7-5-4-3-2-1 for all but relay events, 7-5-4, limit of twoindividuals and one relay team per school to score in each event).

Last Week (April 4-7)
UCLA traveled to Austin for the 74th running of the Clyde Littlefield TexasRelays. This year's relays featured more than 5,000 high school, collegiate andprofessional athletes competing in 117 events at the four-day meet (Wed., April4-Sat., April 7).

The Bruins had three winners in the women's competition ' freshman Lena Nilssonin the 1500m (4:23.17,season-best, NCAA provisional), UCLA's 4 X 800m relay(8:33.21, school record) and senior Christina Tolson in the shot put (56-1 1/4,season-best, NCAA automatic). UCLA's men were led by junior Scott Moser, whoplaced fourth in the shot put (61-7), third in the discus (194-10) and 11th inthe hammer (186-6), freshman Dan Ames, who was seventh in the shot put (60-13/4), sixth in the discus (191-1) and sixth in the hammer (192-8,personal-best), along with sophomore Kyle Erickson in the 400m hurdles, whoplaced sixth (50.93, personal-best, NCAA provisional).

Looking Ahead (April 21)
The Bruins will send athletes to three different meets next weekend ' Mt. SACRelays, Pomona Invitational and the Long Beach Invitational.

About Nebraska
At the 2001 NCAA Indoor Championships (the UCLA women won their secondconsecutive title), the Cornhusker women placed 18th and the Husker men tied for26th. Both Nebraska teams won the 2001 Big 12 Indoor titles (over Texas).

At the 2000 NCAA Outdoor (the Bruin women were third), the Nebraskawomen tied for seventh and both Cornhusker teams won the Big 12 2000 Outdoortitles.

UCLA's women's head coach Jeanette Bolden is in her eighth season as head coachof the UCLA women's team. For the last two seasons (2000/2001), she has directedthe Bruins to the NCAA Indoor titles. It was UCLA's (women or men) first everindoor crowns.

At the NCAA Outdoor Championships under Bolden, the Bruins have finished nolower than third on six occasions (2000-3rd, 1999-2nd, 1998-2nd, 1997-3rd,1996-9th, 1995-2nd, 1994-3rd).She has also directed UCLA to six Pac-10 titles, including the last four in arow.

In 2000, she was named the Pac-10 (fourth year in a row and sixth time in herBruin head coaching career) and USTCA West Region (fourth consecutive, fifthtime in her career) Women's Coach of the Year.

Bolden 's career dual mark is 59-1 (losing the first dual meet of her careerthis season to Washington State, WSU 85-UCLA 78 on March 17 at Berkeley). Thelast time UCLA's women suffered a dual defeat was in 1992, losing back-to-backduals to Houston, 70-66 and USC, 80-30. Since then, the UCLA women had won 66consecutive duals (before losing to WSU), including 52 straight at DrakeStadium.

She is an Olympic gold medal winner (1984, USA 4 X 100m relay) and BruinAll-American sprinter (1981-83).

Bruin men's head coach Art Venegas is in his second season as the UCLA men'shead coach.

Venegas was a Bruin assistant coach for 18 years before taking over the headmen's position from Bob Larsen before the 2000 season.

He is a world-renowned coach in the throws. During his Bruin tenure, hedirected the UCLA men's/women's throwing corps to 29 NCAA individual titles andin the 1990s, Bruin throwers had won 38 Pac-10 championships.
