Fourteenth-Ranked Women's Tennis Stays Unbeaten At Home By Toppling No. 11 Texas, 5-2

Tempe, Ariz.--The fourteenth-ranked Arizona State (15-4, 6-4) women's tennis team handed the No. 11 University of Texas-Austin (13-7) its fifth straight loss today by defeating the Longhorns, 5-2, at Whiteman Tennis Center. With the victory, the Devils stay unbeaten at home (12-0).
ASU earned the doubles point by stealing two of the three needed matches. ASU's Megan Yeats and Cindy Sureephong, this time playing on the No. 2 court, improved to 17-2 overall in dual play by defeating Texas' Rebekah Forney and Kaysie Smashey, 8-5. Sophomore Adria Engel teamed up with senior Faye DeVera on the No. 3 court to come back and defeat the Longhorns' Michelle Krinke/Joanne Masongsong combo, 8-4.
In singles action, the Devils got a quick point thanks to a Texas default on the No. 6 court. On the No. 1 court, No. 12-ranked ASU sophomore Adria Engel notched her seventh straight dual victory with a 6-1, 7-6(6) win over No. 34 Vladka Uhlirova. ASU senior Faye DeVera bested Texas' Michelle Krinke, 6-2, 7-6(4), on the No. 4 court, and freshman Cindy Sureephong defeated Longhorns' Ziva Grasic on the No. 5 court, 6-3, 6-1.
The Devils continue their home swing against No. 1 Stanford and No. 6 California this weekend. ASU will host the NCAA-best Cardinal at 1:30 p.m. (MST) on Friday and the Golden Bears at 12:00 p.m. (MST) on Saturday at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
