Tolson Named Pac-10 Women's Field Athlete of the Week

UCLA senior Christina Tolson, from Fountain Valley, on Tuesday was namedthe Pacific-10 Women's Field Athlete of the Week for her efforts at last week'sTexas Relays. This is the first week the Conference Office issued Pac-10 Athleteof the Week honors (the weekly honors will continue until the Pac-10Championships, May 19-20 at Berkeley).
At the Texas Relays, Tolson won the shot put (56-1 1/4, season-best, NCAAautomatic) and was second in the hammer throw (207-11, ties season-best, NCAAautomatic).
On the current national collegiate best marks list, Tolson's 56-1 1/4 inthe shot put leads the nation and her 207-11 hammer throw is No. 2.
Last March at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, AR, Tolson ledthe Bruin women to their second consecutive national indoor title. She won theshot put (55-9 3/4) and placed second in the weight throw (68-9 3/4).
At last year's NCAA Outdoor, Tolson earned All-American honors twice,placing fifth in both the shot put (52-9 1/2) and hammer throw (203-6). At the2000 Pac-10 Championships, Tolson won the hammer (208-5) and is the conferencerecord-holder (208-11) in that event.
The Bruin women and men on Saturday (April 14) will host their final homemeet of the season at Drake Stadium, vs. Nebraska and CS Northridge. The hammerthrows will start at 9:30 a.m. and the running events begin at noon.
