Track and Field Athletes of the Week (4/10/01)

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Pacific-10 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week
honors for the week of April 2-8:
MEN'S TRACK - Santiago Lorenzo, OREGON. Lorenzo helped the Ducks to their first Texas
Relays crown in 52 years while posting an NCAA automatic qualifying effort in the decathlon. Lorenzo finished with a career-best 7,726 points, edging the next competitor by 23 points. He recorded decathlon career bests of 15-9 in the pole vault and a 14.90 clocking in the 110 hurdles. Lorenzo recorded a javelin mark of 201-4. He won the 1500 meters in a lean at the line (4:39.57). He is a junior from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
MEN'S FIELD - John Stiegeler, OREGON. At the Texas Relays, Stiegeler continued to raise
his standing on the NCAA automatic qualifying list with his first +240-foot effort in the javelin. His seven-foot best of 245-9 was second only to Germany's Boris Henry (283-5), who has turned in the farthest throw in the world in 2001. Stiegeler is a sophomore from Coos Bay, Ore.
WOMEN'S TRACK - Brianna Glenn, ARIZONA. Glenn took top honors in the 100 meters at the
Texas Relays with a Myers Stadium record and NCAA automatic qualifying time of 11.21w. Her time is the fastest in the nation this year. This marks the second straight year the junior from La Mirada, Calif., has captured top honors in the event at the Texas Relays.
WOMEN'S FIELD - Christina Tolson, UCLA. Tolson won the shot put at the Texas Relays
with a season-best and NCAA automatic qualifying toss of 56-1 1/4. She recorded a second-place finish in the hammer (207-11), another NCAA automatic qualifying mark which tied her career best. She is a senior from Fountain Valley, Calif.
