Top-Ranked UCLA Defeats College Of The Desert, 6-1

Los Angeles, CA -- The top-ranked UCLA Bruins tennis defeated the College of the Desert, 7-0 in a scrimmage match this afternoon at the LA Tennis Center. The match was a non-sanctioned ITA match and will not count towards overall records.
The Bruins grabbed the first point of the match after claiming all three double matches. Erfan Djahangiri and Lassi Ketola got the Bruins off to a fast start after defeating Martin Aldorsson and Fabio Minozi, 8-1 on court No. 3. The duo of Jean-Noel Grinda and Tobias Clemens clinched the doubles point for UCLA, winning on court No. 2, 8-6 over Kuniyoshi Minato and Jamie Maxwell.
UCLA was just as strong in singles as the Bruins won five of six matches. Two matches went to tie-breakers in lieu of playing a third set. Djahangiri won 10-8 in the tie-breaker over Minato on Court No. 3, while Clemens, who played in his first singles match since injuring his left ankle, fell to Carlos Palencia on court No. 2, 7-4 in the tie-breaker. Junior Derrick Nguyen made his second appearance in dual action and posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Alfredo Barreto on court No. 6.
UCLA returns to action this Friday (Apr. 13) in match against No. 13 Washington at the LA Tennis Center at 1:30 pm.
