LOS ANGELES-Junior tailback Sultan McCullough ran 65 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the day to highlight a 56-play intrasquad scrimmage by the Trojan football team on Friday (April 13) at USC.

Junior quarterback Carson Palmer scored the day's other touchdown on a 1-yard sneak, while junior walk-on placekicker Anthony Boscarini hit a 22-yard field goal to close the scrimmage.

Palmer was 9-of-15 passing for 99 yards. The leading receiver was senior tailback Malaefou MacKenzie, who caught 6 passes for 57 yards.

Redshirt freshman linebacker Lee Webb led all tacklers with 6 stops, including 2 for losses. All 4 tackles by senior defensive end Lonnie Ford were for losses (of 24 yards), including a pair of sacks for minus 10 yards. Junior linebacker Mike Pollard also had 4 stops.

Overall, the Trojan defense recorded 7 sacks.

'The offense was explosive today and made some big plays,' said new USC head coach Pete Carroll. 'Carson made some big throws in some tough situations. I thought there were a lot of highlight plays, so I'm really happy.

'On defense, I thought there were some big hits.

'I'm pleased with where we are right now. We're making strides, we're growing. We're right on schedule with all the things we wanted to install.'

The Trojans conclude spring drills on April 21.
