Men's Tennis Clinches Share Of Fifth Straight Pac-10 Title

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford University (17-1 overall, 6-0 Pac-10) clinched a share of its fifth consecutive Pacific-10 Conference title with a 6-1 win over visiting Arizona State (9-10, 3-3) on Friday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

The fourth-ranked Cardinal, which holds a one-game lead over UCLA, can clinch the conference title outright with a win over Arizona (12-6, 2-3) on Saturday at noon as 'Pac-10 Weekend' presented by Duetsche Banc Alex.Brown draws to a close at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Stanford completed a season sweep over the 32nd-ranked Sun Devils by dominating singles competition on Friday. The Cardinal won five of the six matches in straight sets to clinch its 11th straight victory overall, and 66th straight home win dating back to 1996.

The Cardinal captured the doubles point for the eighth consecutive dual by winning two of the three matches. At No. 3 doubles, third-ranked sophomores Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY/Bellmore-Kennedy HS) and David Martin (Key Biscayne, FL/Boca Raton Prep) improved to 15-0 in duals, and 28-2 overall, with an 8-4 victory over Olivier Charroin and Pim Van Mele.

The hosts then locked up the win with quick victories at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles. Lipsky won his eighth dual match in 10 tries with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win over Jarrod Eckermann at No. 6. The Cardinal also received straight set victories from Alex Kim (Potomac, Md/Winston Churchill HS), Ryan Haviland (Sumter, SC/Sumter HS), Scotty Scott (Belvedere, CA/Pinewood School) and Ali Ansari (Houston, TX/Second Baptist HS).

Arizona State received victories from Nicholas Dubey at No. 2 singles, and Mitchell Bowen and Eckermann at No. 2 doubles.
