Three Bruin Gymnasts Selected to Pac-10 All-Academic Team

April 13, 2001

Walnut Creek, CA - UCLA sophomore gymnasts Kristin Parker (Hanford, CA), Onnie Willis (Tacoma, WA) and Doni Thompson (Olympia, WA) were selected to the Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic Team.

Parker, an undeclared major with a 3.75 gpa, earned first-team honors, the first for a Bruin in three years. Parker has had an outstanding 2001 campaign, recording career-bests in all four events (V - 9.95, UB - 9.975, BB - 9.95, FX - 10) and the all-around (39.675) for the top-ranked Bruins. The two-time All-American was a Verizon Academic All-District selection this season and an NACGC Scholastic All-American last year.

Willis, an undeclared major with a 3.55 gpa, was chosen to the second team. The three-time All-American has also set several career-highs this year, scoring her second career 10 on vault, a 9.9 on the balance beam, her first ever 10 on the floor exercise and a 39.675 in the all-around. Willis was also a 2001 Verizon Academic All-District selection this year.

Earning honorable mention acclaim was Thompson, last year's Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. Thompson has earned career-high marks on all four events this year with a 9.85 on vault, 9.95 on bars and 9.875 on beam and floor, as well as a 39.425 in the all-around.

In order to be eligible for Pac-10 All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant substitute.
