Top-Ranked Women's Tennis Picks Up 5-2 Win Over No. 14 Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 1-ranked Stanford women's tennis team posted a 5-2 win over No. 14 Arizona State on Friday afternoon at the Whiteman Tennis Center. The Cardinal is now 21-0 overall and 8-0 in the Pacific-10 Conference while the Sun Devils fall to 15-5 and 6-5 in the Pac-10.

Stanford won two of the three doubles matches and took five of the six points in singles play. The No. 2-ranked doubles team of Gabriela Lastra (Reno, NV) and Laura Granville (Chicago, IL) picked up an 8-1 win. But the Sun Devils won the doubles point of the day as top-ranked Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ) and Granville dropped an 8-3 match and Keiko Tokuda (Clifton, NJ) and Sarah Pestieau (New York, NY) lost a tough match by the score of 8-6.

In singles play, No. 1-ranked Granville defeated No. 12 Adria Engel 6-2, 6-2. No. 7 Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, FL) also won her match 6-2, 6-2 while Lastra, who is ranked 20th, defeated No. 63 Megan Yeats 6-2, 6-4. No. 92 Barnikow was also a winner in singles play. The Sun Devils won their only singles point at No. 6 as Cindy Sureephong defeated Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH) 6-4, 6-2.

The Cardinal continues its road trip at Arizona on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
