UCLA Inks San Diego Area Women's Basketball Standout Brianna Winn
April 13, 2001
UCLA head women's basketball coach Kathy Olivier announced today the signing of Brianna Winn to a national letter-of-intent. She will enter UCLA in the fall of 2001 as a freshman and become a member of the 2001-2002 Bruin team.
Winn, a 5-10 point guard, attends The Bishop's School in LaJolla, CA where she was coached by her dad. The Ladyknights won the 2001 State title and the 2001 CIF title in the San Diego area. Winn, named the Division 4 State Player of the Year, averaged 14 points, seven rebounds and eight assists per game. She shot 78% from the free throw line and 49% from the field, including 35% from three-point range. Winn was also named first-team All-State and All- San Diego County. In addition, she was the captain of the San Diego All-Academic High School team.
'We are very excited to add a student-athlete like Brianna who has not only received many honors for her performances on the basketball court, but also is a standout in the classroom,' said Olivier. 'We addressed our need for size in the early signing period, and Brianna gives us a quality addition to help improve our backcourt.'
In November, Coach Olivier signed post players Krystle Johnson and Paula 'Sissy' Pickett. Johnson stands 6-4 and attends Hoover High School in Hoover, AL. Pickett, a 6-7 center, attends Martin High School in Coushatta, LA.
