Round of 68 Helps White Win Peg Barnard California Collegiate
April 14, 2001
STANFORD, Calif. - Oregon All-America candidate Jerilyn White shot a career-low 4-under 68 Saturday to win the Peg Barnard California Collegiate at the 6,154-yard, par-72 Stanford Golf Course. White, a senior from Salem, Ore., finished the tournament at even-par 144, three strokes ahead of second place Stephanie Keever of Stanford.
It was White's sixth-straight top 20 finish, but the first win of her collegiate career. White had finished third twice, including last month's Verizon 'Mo'morial. The 68 was one stroke lower than her previous low of 69, which she carded once as a sophomore and once earlier this season. White was the 1996 Oregon state prep champion for McNary High School.
White led Oregon to its highest team finish of the season as the Ducks finished fifth overall with a composite score of 620. Stanford won the team championship with a composite score of 595.
'I couldn't be more proud of Jerilyn,' said Oregon coach Shannon Rouillard. 'She was really intense. She wanted to conquer this course and she sure did.
'From a team standpoint, we didn't lose any ground from Friday, but we didn't gain any. We did beat some teams that we needed to get a win over to secure our standing for regionals.'
The Ducks' Megan Heckeroth had the highest finish of her career, tying for 21st with a composite score of 155. The sophomore from Netarts, Ore., had a 79 Saturday following a career-low round of 76 Friday. Junior Kathy Cho tied for 32nd at 161.
Up next for Oregon are the Pac-10 Championships, April 23-25 in Tempe, Ariz.
