ASU Wrestlers Named to Pac-10 All-Academic Team

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State wrestler Andy Swanson was named to the Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic second-team, while teammate Curtis Owen earned honorable mention honors, conference commissioner Tom Hansen announced Friday, April 13.
Swanson, a redshirt-freshman from Louisville, Colo., has a 3.56 cumulative GPA in business and earned the first Pac-10 All-Academic honors of his career. Swanson wrestled 21 matches at 197 pounds for ASU, compiling a 7-14 overall record and a 2-7 dual record. He also turned in three falls throughout the season.
Owen, a junior from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, was ASU's starter all season at 174 pounds, taking third at the Pac-10 Championships and qualifying for his second-straight NCAA championship appearance. Owen, who has a 3.03 GPA in psychology, compiled an overall record of 24-14 and a dual record of 11-3, while tying for the team lead in major decision victories (10) with sophomore Eric Larkin.
To be eligible for selection to the Pac-10 All-Academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and be either a starter or significant substitute.
