Mowe, Wolvert Await WNBA Draft

April 19, 2001

EUGENE, Ore. - University of Oregon women's basketball players Jenny Mowe and Angelina Wolvert could be making history Friday.

The two former Duck standouts are draft prospects for the 16-team Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The draft will be nationally-televised live (ESPN2, 8:30 a.m. PDT) for the first time in history.

An Oregon player has never been drafted in the league's five-year existence. Twenty-four former Pac-10 players were in the WNBA last season, but only one, Jamie Redd, came from a Northwest Pac-10 school (Washington).

In addition to ESPN2's first-round coverage of the 2001 draft, all four rounds will be carried live on TV and online at

Wolvert, a 6-foot-3 forward from Camas, Wash., was an All-Pac-10 selection for the second straight year, averaging a team-leading 14.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. A 6-foot-5 center from Powers, Ore., Mowe led the Pac-10 with a .595 field goal percentage and finished the year with averages of 8.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.
