Men's Golf Finishes Strong At U.S. Intercollegiate

April 22, 2001

STANFORD, Calif. --- Washington State freshman Ryan Camp continued his late-season surge by firing a 73 on Sunday and finishing in a tie for 48th at the U.S. Intercollegiate.

Camp shot a season-best nine-over par 222, leading the team in scoring for the second time this year.

'Ryan played as consistent through three rounds as he has all season,' head coach Walt Williams said. 'We needed him to step up this weekend, and he certainly did that.'

The Cougars posted the eighth best score in the final round to finish in a tie with San Diego for 14th place. Jeremy Taylor matched Camp with a 73, while sophomore Dustin White and freshman Isaac Woods posted 74's to round out the scoring.

'We played much better today,' head coach Walt Williams said. 'Heading into the Pac-10's, we really have to come out and be more focused early in that event. We cannot afford to have the type of rounds that we did yesterday.'

Arizona won the tournament by shooting a 15-under par 837. Arizona State finished 15 strokes back in second place, while UCLA placed third.

Chris Nallen of Arizona made it a clean sweep for the Wildcats by winning the individual medal with seven-under par 206. Teammate Andy Connell tied with Arizona State's Jeff Quinney for second place.

The Cougars will head back to Stanford on Friday to play in the Pac-10 Championship.
