Gatorade Player of the Year Signs With Oregon

EUGENE - The University of Oregon volleyball team signed Katie O'Neil, the 2001 Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Oregon, Oregon head coach Carl Ferreira announced April 19.

O'Neil, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Gresham, Ore., led perennial powerhouse Gresham High School to a third place finish at the Class 4A state tournament and finished her senior season with 229 kills and 316 digs. O'Neil was a first team all-state selection and also earned first team all-Mt. Hood Conference accolades. She was a two year starter on the Nike Northwest Junior Volleyball Club.

'I felt it was important to improve the physicality of our roster and also get the best players in the state,' Ferreira said. 'I feel that we did a good job of recruiting and were able to accomplish that.'
