Steph Adam's Walk-Off Home Run Leads No. 16 OSU Past Oregon, 4-3

CORVALLIS, OR - Steph Adams' two-out seventh inning solo homerun lifted theNo. 16 ranked Oregon State softball team past in-state rival Oregon, 4-3 onTuesday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex.

With the victory the Beavers improve to 36-16-1 on the season and 5-5 in thePac-10 Conference while the Ducks fall to 25-30 overall and 1-11 inconference action.

Oregon jumped in front early with a pair of runs in the first inning whenLisa Wangler and Alyssa Laux, who had each reached base on singles, wereknocked in by Missy Coe's two-out single up the middle.The lead was short-lived however, as the Beavers tallied three runs of theirown in their half of the first.

Senior Brooke Rutschman led off the inning with a double and Clare Burnumwalked to put runners on first and second. Senior Shawna Feldt followed witha three-run blast over the right field fence to give OSU the lead.The homerun was Feldt's third of the season and the first-ever in the OSUSoftball Complex.

The Ducks added a run in the third to knot the score at 3-3.Wangler reached on an error to start the inning and then stole second base.Lynsey Haij's sacrifice bunt advanced Wangler to third and Laux's singleallowed Wangler to score and forced a pitching change as the Crystal Draperentered the game for the Beavers. Draper struck out Andrea Vidlund to endthe inning.

Both pitchers went to work over the next three innings shutting batters downuntil Oregon threatened in the sixth after Missy Coe reached on a one-outsingle. Pinch runner Anissa Meashintubby advanced to second on an errantpick-off attempt and Triawn Custer followed with a bloop double to leftfield that put runners on second and third with just one down.Janell Bergstrom followed with a squeeze attempt but Meashintubby was caughtin a run-down and tagged out by Shawna Feldt. The following batter, KatePeterson, flied out to left to end the inning.

Adams hit the game-winning shot over the left-centerfield fence on a fullcount pitch.

'Steph had a great at-bat,' said OSU head coach Kirk Walker. 'It wasdefinitely one of our better at-bats throughout the whole game.'The Beavers were held to just four hits in the contest compared to Oregon'ssix.

Draper earned the victory to improve to 22-8 on the season.'Crystal did a nice job of staying composed when we made a few mistakesbehind her,' commented Walker. 'She got some big outs and really kept themfrom generating anything productive.'Oregon State hits the road this weekend for three games in the Grand CanyonState. The Beavers open action against No. 2 Arizona at 7 p.m. Friday.
