April 25, 2001
A LOOK AT THE PAC-10 INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS-
The Pac-10's nine women's teams and eight men's teams head to Ojai, Calif., Thursday, April 26 through Sunday, April 29, to decide the league's singles and doubles champions.
For the men, the tournament will feature a 32-player singles draw, in which four athletes from each school will participate. In doubles, there will be a 16-team draw, which shall consist of two doubles teams from each school.
In addition, there is also a Pac-10 Invitational tournament, which will feature players who missed the top spots in the Pac-10 championship tournament. They will have a chance to notch significant wins in singles and in doubles.
MEN CLIMB TO TOP OF RANKINGS--
The men's tennis team has recently jumped an amazing eight spots in the ITA rankings and now sits among the top 15 in the country at No. 13. Just two weeks ago, the No. 13-ranked Bears were ranked No. 26 in the country, yet after winning four of their last five and knocking off top-ranked teams such as Pepperdine, USC and almost defeating No. 1 UCLA, they have gained their highest ranking in the ITA since 1995. That year, Cal matched its third place finish in the Pac-10 and advanced to the NCAA Round of 16.
