No. 9 Softball Falls To No. 1 Arizona, 5-0

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The ninth-ranked Arizona State softball team (30-15, 5-7 Pac-10) fell to top-ranked Arizona (47-4, 9-2 Pac-10), 5-0 tonight at Farrington Stadium in front of 1,186 fans.
Both teams had three hits each through five innings, until the Wildcats unloaded all of their runs in the sixth inning. Nicole Giordano began the inning with an infield hit, which was followed by a pop up by Toni Mascarenas for the first out. Leneah Manuma then took the first pitch she saw from ASU's Erica Beach and lined it over the 210-foot center field wall for the first two runs.
Jenny Finch then singled to center field, followed by a Lindsey Collins' double to right center, moving Finch to third. Kirsten Voak then came in relief of Beach and gave up another homerun to Mackenzie Vandergeest, a three run shot to left field.
The Sun Devils scratched out four singles without advancing a runner to second base. ASU's Phelan Wright went 2-for-3, while Kara Brun and Kristin Farber each had a hit.
Beach (14-7) took the loss, allowing seven hits, four runs with six strikeouts. Voak pitched one and two thirds innings, allowing two hits, one run with four strikeouts. UA's Finch (21-0) went the distance, limiting ASU to four with six strikeouts
