Ducks Struggle to Ninth Place Midway Through Pac-10 Championships

STANFORD, Calif. - The 23rd-ranked Oregon men's golf team never got things going Friday and stood a disappointing ninth halfway through the Pacific-10 Championships, being played at the 6,786-yard, par-72 Stanford Golf Course. The Ducks were 17 strokes over par after rounds of 363 and 364 and well back of leader USC who was 17-under at 693.

Sophomore John Ellis and junior Aaron Byers were the only Ducks below par Friday. Ellis' 71-70 left him 1-under, while Byers matched Ellis' 141 total with rounds of 68-73. The two were tied for 19th with four other golfers.

The next closest Duck to par was sophomore Chris Carnahan at 5-over 146, while senior Matt Genovese was at 8-over 150.

Arizona State trailed USC by four strokes at 697, followed by Arizona at 703, UCLA at 704, Washington at 707, Stanford at 709, Washington State at 714, California at 715, Oregon at 715 and Oregon State at 727.

The third round gets underway Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
