Oregon Softball Loses 6-0 To No. 9 Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - No. 9 Arizona State (31-15 overall, 6-7 Pac-10) used a combined 14 hits to defeat Oregon 6-0 at Farrington Stadium in Tempe, Ariz., Friday evening. The Ducks fell to 25-31, 1-12.

'We had been playing pretty well heading into this game,' Oregon head coach Rick Gamez said. 'I had hoped we would continue to get timely hits and score runs early, but Arizona State played a strong defensive game tonight.'

The Sun Devils scored three runs in the second inning and three in the sixth and pitcher Kirsten Voak (13-6) gave up five hits and had 10 strike outs to shut Oregon out.

Oregon sophomore Lisa Wangler (5-9) took the loss for the Ducks, giving up seven hits and three runs in 2.2 innings pitched. Freshman Anissa Meashintubby took over in the third inning and gave up three hits in and seven hits. Connie McMurren pitched the final inning for Oregon and gave up zero hits and zero runs.

Offensively, five different Oregon players got a hit, including Wangler, who went 1-for-3.

The Ducks face No. 1 Arizona tomorrow at 7 p.m.
