Bruins Look Impressive In Day Two Of Pac-10s

OJAI, CA-Day two of the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai got underway with several Bruins posted impressive victories. Senior Jean-Noel Grinda continued to play superbly and posted a tough three-set victory over Cal's Robert Kowalczyk, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 in the quarterfinals. Grinda will face USC's Ryan Moore in Saturday's semifinal match. Moore upset the tournament's No. 1 seed, Alex Kim of Stanford, 7-6, 6-0.
Sophomore Jean-Julien Rojer reached the semifinals after defeating Stanford's Ryan Haviland, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. Rojer will face Stanford's K.J. Hippensteel in Saturday's other semifinal match.
In doubles, Grinda and Rojer had a relatively easy run as the pair reached the semifinals after defeating Whi Kim and Tom Lloyd of Arizona in the opening round and Cal's Kowalczyk and John Paul Frutterro, 8-3 in the quarterfinals. The duo will face Hippensteel and Kim in the next round.
In the Invitational Pac-10 singles, Travis Rettenmaier was defeated by Stanford's Scott Lipsky in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Derrick Nguyen also fell in straight sets, losing to Ali Ansari of Stanford, 6-2, 6-1.
