Bruins Run Ends At Pac-10s

April 28, 2001

OJAI, CA- Senior Jean-Noel Grinda and sophomore Jean-Julien Rojer were both eliminated Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the Pac-10 singles at the 101st Ojai Valley Tennis Championships.

Grinda fell to USC's Ryan Moore in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 in Saturday's first semifinal match. Rojer, who played in one of the most exciting matches ever witnessed at the Ojai Tournament, dropped a tough three-setter Stanford's K.J. Hippensteel in the other semifinal which included two tie breakers. Rojer claimed the first set, 6-7(5) but then lost the next two sets, 7-6(6), 6-4.

In doubles, it was the familiar UCLA vs. Stanford standoff, but the Bruins could not pull out the victory as the tandem of Grinda and Rojer fell to Stanford's Hippensteel and Alex Kim, 8-5.

The Bruins will now prepare for the NCAA regionals, which will be held May 12-13.
