Women's Soccer Announces 2001 Schedule

April 30, 2001

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State University women's soccer program, under the direction of first year head coach Ray Leone, announced its 2001 schedule today.

Leone's first schedule, consisting of 20 games, is packed with quality teams from across the country, including nine teams that received bids into last year's NCAA Tournament.

One of the top highlights of the season will be a game against 16-time national champion North Carolina. The Sun Devils will face the Tar Heels at the College Showcase Tournament in Houston, Texas on September 16.

The College Showcase is just one of three tournaments ASU will be competing in next season. The Sun Devils open the season on Friday, August 31 in Waco, Texas at the Baylor Invitational against host Baylor.

The final tournament will be in Blue Grass country at the Kentucky Invitational, September 28-30. ASU will take on host Kentucky and NCAA Tournament participant Furman.

ASU will host four non-conference games, including Pepperdine and in-state rival Northern Arizona, before jumping into the ever-competitive Pac-10 slate.
