USC Schedules Arkansas For 2005 And 2006
May 2, 2001
LOS ANGELES - USC will play a home-and-home football series with Arkansas in 2005 and 2006, Trojan athletic director Mike Garrett announced today.
The Trojans will host the Razorbacks in the Coliseum on Sept. 17, 2005, then will travel to Fayetteville for a Sept. 9, 2006 contest.
The teams have met only 3 times in history, all Trojan season-openers in the early 1970s. USC began its 1972 national championship run with a 31-10 win over Arkansas in Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium, then shut out the Razorbacks in the Coliseum in 1973, 17-0. In 1974, Troy rebounded from a 22-7 loss in Little Rock to win another national title.
USC has not played a Southeastern Conference team since losing to Auburn in the 1987 Florida Citrus Bowl (the Trojans and Tigers will meet again in 2002 and 2003).
In the upcoming 2001 season, Troy plays Kansas State, San Jose State and has its annual meeting with Notre Dame on its non-conference slate. Among USC's other non-league opponents through 2009 are Nebraska, Ohio State, BYU, Colorado, BYU and Hawaii.
