Home Runs By Bauer, Mascarenas Beat Cal In Softball

BERKELEY, Calif.--Arizona's Jennie Finch pitched a 5-hit shutout and teammates Lauren Bauer and Toni Mascarenas socked home runs to help the Wildcats beat California in softball at Berkeley Friday afternoon, 5-0.

UA broke a scoreless tie in the fourth. Kamckenzie Vandergeest doubled and after both Allison Andrade and Kim Balkan struck out, Bauer homered to right center. Nicole Giordano doubled, and Mascarenas homered to left center.

The Cats added a run in the fifth on a Lindsey Collins triple and a single by Andrade.

Finch struck out nine to improve to 24-0. The Wildcats are 52-4 and 14-2 in Pac-10 play. Cal pitcher Jen Deering (4-1) took the loss. The Golden Bears dropped to 48-11 and 5-10 in league play.

The home runs by Mascarenas and Bauer extended UA's NCAA single-season team record to 105.

UA travels to Palo Alto to meet Stanford in games Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
