UW's Patty McCain is Pac-10 Women's Tennis Coach of the Year

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Fourth-year Washington coach Patty McCain, who guided the Huskies to a second-place conference finish, was named the Pac-10 Coach of the Year Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Monday.
McCain coached the Huskies to an 18-7 record, including a 6-2 Pac-10 mark en route to their best conference finish. Washington will make its fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend, hosting the regionals for the first-time ever.
The 12th-seeded Huskies host Army (17-12) in NCAA first-round action on Saturday, May 12 at 2 p.m. The other first-round matchup in Seattle features Illinois (17-7) against Virginia Commonwealth (13-7) at 10 a.m. Both matches will be played at Quillian Stadium, located on the UW campus directly north of Bank of America Arena.
Winners of the first-round matches compete on Sunday, May 13 at noon for the right to advance to the 16-team NCAA finals in Stone Mountain, Ga., May 17-20.
McCain played collegiately at Stanford, winning the 1986 and 1987 NCAA singles championships before embarking on a nine-year professional career.
Voted the Pac-10 Player of the Year was Stanford sophomore Laura Granville, the nation's top-ranked player. Granville registered her NCAA-record 58th consecutive singles victory this season, eclipsing the previous record of 57 established by McCain.
A pair of UW women's players were honored, including senior Kristina Kraszewski who garnered first-team All-Pac-10 honors for the third straight season. Kraszewski is currently ranked No. 11 among NCAA singles competitors.
Husky freshman Claire Carter, ranked No. 43 nationally, was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection.
